After 13.5 hours under terror, maybe ‘politie’ [local police] already secure the situation. Police in Brussels have shot a man in a massive manhunt for the gunman who killed two Swedish nationals on Monday evening. Tunisian national, has been ‘neutralised’ by police.
The Tunisian man was shot dead in a café in the Schaerbeek neighbourhood. He was a Tunisian asylum seeker who was illegally in Belgium.
Belgian prosecutors reported the incident but said they could not yet confirm whether the man was the attacker.
Brussels has been on its highest terror alert after Monday's attack.
The person who was shot was likely to be the suspect, said Belgian Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden.

L'interpellation a eu lieu dans la commune bruxelloise de Schaerbeek, où un immeuble avait été perquisitionné dans la nuit. "La police a ouvert le feu", a souligné ce porte-parole, sans préciser si le suspect était blessé. Il doit encore être formellement identifié.

Mogelijk gaat het om de verdachte van de aanslag in Brussel, een Tunesiër van 45. Identificatie moet dat nog bevestigen. De vingerafdrukken van de doodgeschoten persoon worden onderzocht.
Volgens de minister is het heel waarschijnlijk dat het om de verdachte gaat, omdat het wapen waarmee de aanslagen gepleegd zouden zijn, ook in het café is aangetroffen. De VRT meldt op basis van bronnen binnen de politie dat ze er daar ook van uitgaan dat het om de dader van de aanslagen gaat.
Eerder waren er berichten dat de persoon zou zijn doodgeschoten, maar volgens de minister van Binnenlandse Zaken wordt hij nog gereanimeerd.
Schaarbeek is een stadsdeel ten noordoosten van het centrum van Brussel. Daar had de verdachte ook een woning in een appartementencomplex. De politie viel vannacht nog het complex binnen met speciale eenheden, maar de verdachte werd toen niet aangetroffen.

Der Zugriff ereignete sich in einem Café im Brüsseler Stadtteil Schaerbeek. Der Angreifer war nach der Attacke am Montagabend geflüchtet, die Polizei suchte mit einem Großaufgebot nach ihm.
