US senator & former ambassador calls for holding Israel accountable

After ‘unpaused genocide’ at least 37 hours [since Friday, 7.10am local time], 480 - 510 Gazans killed by Israeli airstrike. The United States should hold Israel accountable to a war plan in Gaza that limits civilian casualties and is consistent with American interests and values, said at least US Senator Christopher Van Hollen jr (D-MD) and also former US ambassador Marcelle M. Wahba.
Hollen says in an exclusive interview with Al-Monitor. Ambassador Wahba retired from the U.S. Department of State in 2008 [worked since June 1986 for State Department], class of Minister Counselor, after a twenty two-year career spent mostly in the Middle East. Ambassador Wahba was confirmed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United; served in Abu Dhabi till June 2004. From 2006 to 2008 she was detailed to the Pentagon as the Foreign Policy Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the US Air Force.
Before to be Senator, Van Hollen served as the U.S. representative for Maryland's 8th congressional district from 2003 to 2017. Biden easily carried Maryland with 65.4% of the vote to Trump's 32.2% (a margin of 33.2%, much improved from Hillary Clinton's 26.4% in 2016).
“I support the focus for now being on implementing and holding the Netanyahu government accountable for coming up with a plan — an actionable, verifiable, enforceable plan — to dramatically reduce the number of civilian casualties and to ensure we have full cooperation with supplying desperately needed humanitarian assistance to Gaza,” said Van Hollen, backing statements made in Israel this week by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
On Nov. 8, Van Hollen and 25 other Democratic senators wrote to US President Joe Biden expressing support for Israel’s military requests but concerns about Israeli military strategy, especially its impact on civilians.
The war began on Oct. 7 when Hamas, the terrorist group which governs Gaza, killed around 1,200 Israelis. Israeli military operations against Hamas in Gaza have resulted in close to 21,000 Palestinians killed, most of them women and [8,300] children.
Israel resumed military operations in Gaza on Friday, following a one-week pause mediated by Qatar, Egypt and the United States, which allowed humanitarian assistance to Gaza and an exchange of 110 of the 240 Israeli and international hostages seized on October 7 in return for 240 Palestinian prisoners released from Israeli jails.

Toddler with Plestia, before war, living in Northern Gaza and they evacuated to Southern Gaza. Since Friday, Oct 13, when Israel announced to every Gazans from northern move to southern, more than 5,000 killed in southern, not counting barbaric bombing in northern Gaza. Northern Gaza is being depopulated, while even residents in the south are ordered to evacuate as the israelis implement their ethnic cleansing.
