World Mental Health Day
Dear my connection.
I just to share with you that today, October 10th, is World Mental Health Day
Until today, I've felt like a “latecomer”. My brother is now successful in U.S., managing restructuring and turnaround. I still feel like a loser, too far to reach my capacity if compared with my entire family, not only my brother. 4,5 years ago I started seeing my psychiatrist. I got the professional help I desperately needed after struggling privately and depression for so many years. Since last month, I have tried to reach out to someone who is facing an abusive relationship in years, maybe darker than I was facing.
I thought having bad mental health was a sign of weakness, so I fought my battles alone, even though my entire family didn’t know. Even the strongest person needs a support team. Please normalize these conversations (reach out to solve mental health), and help others know they don’t have to struggle alone. You don’t have to suffer in silence.
At times when we can’t afford professional help for whatever reason, these lines can be life-saving. The thing about hotlines is it’s the last call, last string of hope.
LISA (Love Inside Suicide Awareness) Suicide Prevention Helpline provides mental health and psychosocial support program that is inclusive of all levels of society regardless of any background. LISA is available in English and Indonesia, available for 24 hours. With cell phone number, please call +62 811 3815 472 (English); +62 811 3855 472 (Bahasa Indonesia)
The Indonesian government has launched a psychological consultation service to ensure the public’s mental health. The psychological consultation service can be accessed by dialing extension 8 on the National COVID-19 hotline of 199, where the caller would be connected to one of volunteer psychologists from the Indonesian Psychology Association (HIMPSI).
Thank you for fighting until now, trying to do your best and be the best you can be in your own version. There is no regret about anything, and you will never be alone. Be the best version of yourself.
For the U.S. since July 2022, Americans in distress have a new number to dial for help: 988.
