Blue MAGA named Biden. Happy Birthday

Biden, who turns 81 on Monday, seems to be in denial about the problems facing him, including a vengeful Donald Trump who is gaining in the polls, & backlash about Gaza.

Biden’s standing hits new lows amid Israel-Hamas war. The erosion is most pronounced among Dems, a majority of whom believe Israel has gone too far in Gaza. Imagine spray pepper-ed your voters from Jewish America who asked [or begged] to ceasefire.

Among voters ages 18-34, 70% of them disapprove of his handling of the war. Let’s remember, serious post-war planning turns on the extent of Israel military success - the more progress Israel achieves in dismantling HAMAS or liquidating its leadership, the less post-conflict security presence it will require.

Obviously, Fox News is a great place to go to spout falsehoods, but somehow seems like Democrats going on there to gin up threats against their own Jewish voters is a little shortsighted.

The late Israeli PM Menachem Begin was shocked that ‘Young Senator Biden’ more hawkish, more heinous than him. Blue MAGA, same heinous like Trump, but ‘blue’, not only Blue Democrat. Blue like Israeli flag.

I hope everyone remembers exactly how many insane claims were put forward by Israeli officials only to be quietly retracted & how the media & even the president uncritically repeated them. All the genocidal rhetoric from politicians about wiping Gaza off the map went unquestioned.

America IS BAD, Western IS BAD. There’s a mountain of evidence as to why. we live in a world where the us is the hegemonic power. It takes tremendous amounts of violence and coercion to get there and keep that power. you think that’s good. That’s bad and America should change its ways.

Existing US law already conditions aid, it’s just not enforced. Wild to see a US Congressman come out against enforcing US law. Gaza could well prove to be the US's Suez crisis moment. To "formulate an international action to stop the war on Gaza", Arab-Islamic Foreign Ministers represented by Saudi Arabia say "the first stop will be China."

In other words they now recognize China's legitimity as the leading force for peace here. Meaning we effectively aren't in a US-led world order anymore, in fact they likely now see the US as a disrupter of order.

Rewrite again. 70% of voters aged 18-34 disapprove of Biden’s policy. 56% of all voters disapprove of his policy. 51% of Democrats say Israel's gone too far. 49% of Democrats oppose U.S. aid to Israel.

There are only a few 21st-century leaders so far that you can confidently declare to be truly era-defining for their countries. Benjamin Netanyahu is one of them. The longest-serving Prime Minister in the country’s history. Active in politics for more than four decades straight. You cannot understand the Israel of today without knowing Netanyahu, the man. Israeli security policies are Netanyahu’s policies.

The horrific events in the south [Gaza] and the dangerous situation in the north [Lebanon - Israel border] do not render this less important.

It is extremely important. Its occupation policies are Netanyahu’s policies. Its economic policy is his policy.

The country’s political divides, laid bare in five elections over the span of four years, stemmed largely from how voters felt about him. No matter which side you were on, he was always larger than life: an indispensable statesman or a world-class thief. His position was so secure, his power so ensconced, his party and its backers so radical, that he was even on path to reshape his country’s very institutions in his own image at the apex of his career.

Even more "troubling" for Israel. Until now, Israeli were able to bully many into rubber-stamping anything we do & silencing many of those left. Israel's Minister of Interior has announced that he's initiated a process to revoke residency status from 2 Jerusalem Palestinians (whom he demagogically terms "Hamas terrorist Nazis").

This based on law allowing revocation for "breach of allegiance to the state of Israel." When your government begins to speak in a manner indistinguishable from a toxic Muskian Twitter feed, you may have a problem. Just when you thought they could go no lower. The lack of moral courage in the US is an epidemic.

Many people are only comfortable with acknowledging atrocities of the past because that requires nothing of them. Acknowledging current atrocities forces you to use your voice, evaluate your complicity and do shit differently. Israel is an apartheid state. This is immoral and should end. how to get there might be hard, but the morality is pretty simple unless you believe Israel’s security concerns necessitate brutalizing 5 million Palestinians and keeping 6 million in refugee status. Zionist holocaust denial did not arise out of a vacuum and the argument that Hamas is ‘worse’ than the Nazis because the Nazis ‘had remorse’ can only be understood as a product of a much larger colonial orientalist epistemology that both preceded and engendered Nazism.

So when President Joe Biden privately employs that epithet for Axelrod [‘David Axelrod is prick’], according to Politico’s Jonathan Martin, it’s bad for a few reasons.

The ordinarily gracious president is punching down at the strategist who helped elevate him on to the ticket with Barack Obama in 2008 and who thinks he was “a great vice-president” and has done a lot of wonderful things as president.

When some in the Obama camp chattered in 2011 about switching Biden out for Hillary Clinton, Axelrod said, he protested: “That would be an incredible act of disloyalty to a guy who has done a great job for us.”

Surely, Biden does not want to lower himself to the vulgarity of the growling, brawling, thieving Republicans in the Hieronymus Bosch hellscape of our Congress.

Axelrod drew Biden’s ire because he urged the president to consider stopping at one term, throwing open the race to younger Democrats while there’s still time, and leaving as a hero. He said that, despite Biden’s insult, he got a slew of messages agreeing with him.

According to a New York Times/Siena College poll, Donald Trump is ahead in five battleground states and, as some other surveys have found, is even making inroads among Black voters and young voters. There’s a generational fracture in the Democratic Party over the Israeli-Hamas horror and Biden’s age. Third-party spoilers are circling.

The president turns 81 on Monday; the Oval hollows out its occupants quickly, and Biden is dealing with two world-shattering wars, chaos at the border, a riven party and a roiling country.

“I think he has a 50-50 shot here, but no better than that, maybe a little worse,” Axelrod said. “He thinks he can cheat nature here and it’s really risky. They’ve got a real problem if they’re counting on Trump to win it for them. I remember Hillary doing that, too.”

The president’s flash of anger indicates that he may be in denial, surrounded by enablers who are sugarcoating a grim political forecast.

Like other pols, Biden has a healthy ego and like all presidents, he’s truculent about not getting the credit he thinks he deserves for his accomplishments. And it must be infuriating that most of the age qualms are about him, when Trump is only a few years younger.

No doubt the president is having a hard time wrapping his mind around the idea that the 77-year-old Mar-a-Lago Dracula has risen from his gilded coffin even though he’s albatrossed with legal woes and seems more deranged than ever, referring to Democrats with the fascist-favoured term “vermin” and plotting a second-term revengefest. Trump’s campaign slogan should be, “There will be blood.”

For Biden, this is about his identity. It’s what he has fought all his life for, even battling his way through “friendly fire”, as Hunter Biden told me, in the Obama White House, when some Obama aides undermined him. It must have been awful when Obama took his vice-president to lunch and nudged him aside for Hillary to run in 2016. Biden craves the affirmation of being reelected. He doesn’t want to look like a guy who’s been driven from office.

But he should not indulge the Irish chip on his shoulder. He needs to gather the sharpest minds in his party and hear what they have to say, not engage in petty feuds.

If Trump manages to escape conviction in Jack Smith’s Washington case, which may be the only criminal trial that ends before the election, that’s going to turbocharge his campaign. Of course, if he’s convicted, that could turbocharge his campaign even more.

It’s a perfect playing field for the maleficent Trump: he learned in the 2016 race that physical and rhetorical violence could rev up his base.

He has no idea why making fun of Paul Pelosi’s injuries at the hands of one of his acolytes is subhuman, any more than he understood how repellent it was in 2015 when he mocked a disabled New York Times reporter. He gets barbaric laughs somehow, and that’s all he cares about. In an interview with Jonathan Karl, Trump gloated about how his audience on January 6th was “the biggest crowd I’ve ever spoken in front of by far”.

Never mind that it was one of the most dangerous, shameful days in US history. To Trump, it was glorious.
