Indonesia Game Rating System Rollout on Steam Sparks Backlash Among Indonesian Community
Steam/valve [created by legendary America developer Gabe Newell, popular with call name GABEN] has won over gigantic, seemingly super-powered companies before [Rothschild family]. I know it’s unlikely but i hope for what its worth out of this situation they sue komdigi [Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs] or whatever.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (MCDA) has issued a statement following Steam’s rollout of the IGRS rating system for games in Indonesia.
In a statement, they defended of the IGRS system, saying that reports of inconsistent game ratings were a result of Steam’s own developer survey not being aligned with the IGRS’ own internal logic.
“Currently, Steam is in the stage of adjusting its internal systems to accommodate IGRS classification logic, including the technical integration process for service reporting”, the statement reads.
“Simultaneously, the IGRS and Steam are discussing a formal cooperation agreement as a basis for implementing ratings that are more accurate and in accordance with Indonesian regulations. The Ministry maintains that age classification information must be displayed accurately, clearly, and accountably, as this pertains directly to consumer protection and the certainty of information for the public, particularly parents and young users.”
This situation has sparked a lot of backlash from developers, particularly over how broad some of its criteria are and how inconsistent it can be compared to other country’s rating systems.
[Steam / Valve apologize to gaming user, not to Indonesian Government]
IGRS (government based game rating system) messed up with their own ratings, then they blame steam for their own fault. On the next day, steam uses non-government Indonesia game rating, as it used to be, for the games rating. But it’s still not clear for the IGRS’ RC labeled game
As of yesterday, there were two ways to get an IGRS rating- the first being applying directly via the IGRS website, and the other using Steam’s internal developer questionnaire.
While Steam uses the same survey to generate guidelines for different countries, the MCDA statement highlights that there is a chance it does not line up with the government body’s own internal logic.
For example, cozy typing-cooking game The Chef’s Shift filled out Steam’s content survey and was rated 16 according to Brazil and Germany’s content guidelines, but was rated 18+ as per the IGRS.
Another issue is with the IGRS ratings themselves: as pointed out by users games with sexual content like Nukitashi or violence like Call of Duty were given a 3+ rating, while less extreme games like the locally-made A Space For The Unbound were rated 18+.
In its initial guidelines, the IGRS had listed games with pornographic content as being automatically flagged Refused Certification (RC).
According to Toge Productions boss Kris Antoni, Steam has temporarily paused the IGRS rollout, with no currently announced date for when it would come back.
To its credit, Steam has been a cooperative partner in the rollout of the IGRS system- using its own internal developer questionnaire, the website generates an IGRS rating for games being sold to Indonesian audiences.
According to the Steam Partner blog, once the rollout is finalized, games without an IGRS-compliant rating will not be displayed to Indonesian audiences.
Despite this, AGI has said the rating system was meant to be a guideline rather than a limitation:
“It must be stressed that this system is a guideline, not a restriction, with the purpose of protecting consumers and supporting the growth of a games industry that is knowledgeable on the classification of content classification for age groups”, the statement reads.

If you feel powerless to help Gaza, you still has a choice: donate. When so much of what exists is false, authenticity is a powerful weapon we can wield that the state never could. So if you feel lost, hopeless, depressed, angry and afraid, I implore you to return - again - again - and again - to the feeling of love that exists within you that brought you here in the first place. It is only through this that we can remake the world. To redress Gaza’s famine, displacement, and destruction, independent and impartial humanitarian organizations - UN agencies, international and national NGOs - must be allowed to deliver relief at scale. To salvage Gaza’s people from the devastation inflicted by Israel, it must be unified with the West Bank to form an independent and sovereign Palestinian State, not to be parceled and colonized by the former.
Meanwhile, children continue to be shredded by US bombs, and the starvation reaches new depths of hellish collective punishment. If both parties are going to continue to support an ongoing genocide, at least they can both be honest about doing so, rather than having one openly bloodthirsty party, and another—unconvincingly—playing the role of powerless, bumbling humanitarian.
Please keep donate Gaza especially if you, as reader, has [background] International Relation [whatever universities]. IR Graduate means [you must, at least] get some semester [about] studying Middle East [in macro, not specifically Gaza].
We need more people to share fundraisers instead of only talking about Gaza. Some people think that those in Gaza don’t need money but that’s wrong. Almost everyone lost their source of income while essentials, food & medicine get sold for astronomical prices. So I put my attempt in all social media as I can, in twitter / X, in substack [since October 2023 I put link donation], in bluesky or bsky, in threads, in instagram.

Most campaign shared or circulated in social media are for REAL people in Gaza. They’re legit. There are a lot of small campaigns for struggling families. This is their only lifeline. By donating & sharing, you are literally making history and alleviating part of their pain
Please do not rely on me alone for sharing your campaign. I’m only 1 person and sometimes I’m not online which is unreliable. I never ignore anybody on purpose but I have a very limited capacity & very little energy and time.
[Refaat Rafiq Alareer IF I MUST DIE] Refaat Rafiq Alareer was extremely hungry, November 2023, days before Refaat killed by Israel airstrike. If November 2023 already [one-by-one Gazan] extremely famine, extremely hungry, imagine November 2025 or more than 2 years Israel’s Genocide in Gaza.
